About this opening
With 1.b3 White fianchettoes the bishop to b2 to exert lasting pressure on the long diagonal and the e5-square: the Nimzo-Larsen Attack is the most respected of the rare flank openings. White lets Black build a broad center in order to harass it later with e3, Bb5 and f4. The main replies are the Classical Variation 1...d5, the Modern 1...e5 and the Indian 1...Nf6. Nimzowitsch laid its foundations in the 1920s, Bent Larsen made it his favorite weapon and Fischer adopted it with success in 1970.
