About this opening
With 1.h4 White pushes a rook pawn that helps neither the center nor development: the Kádas Opening is best justified as preparation for a g4 push or as a pure surprise. Black equalizes effortlessly with 1...d5 or 1...e5. Among the named continuations, the Schneider Gambit 1...g5!? returns the provocation and the Koola-Koola Variation 1...a5 answers on the opposite wing. Named after the Hungarian player Gábor Kádas, it belongs to blitz rather than a serious repertoire.
