About this opening
With 1.g4 White weakens his own kingside on the very first move: the Grob Opening is one of the most provocative openings around. After 1...d5, the Grob Gambit 2.Bg2 offers the g4-pawn to open the long diagonal against b7, the source of many traps. The Swiss master Henri Grob analyzed it deeply and played it in hundreds of correspondence games, and Michael Basman later took it up. Objectively dubious, it remains dangerous against an unprepared opponent.
