About this opening
The Grünfeld Defense (1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 d5) is one of the most combative hypermodern weapons: Black lets White build a large pawn center in order to attack it with ...c5 and the pressure of the g7 bishop. The Exchange Variation and the Russian System are its main lines. Bobby Fischer, Garry Kasparov and later Peter Svidler turned it into a fearsome counterattacking weapon.
