About this opening

With 1.d4 f5, the Dutch Defense stakes an immediate claim to the e4 square and shows kingside ambitions. Three main structures emerge: the very solid Stonewall (d5-e6-f5 pawns), the Leningrad with a ...g6 fianchetto, and the Classical with ...e6 and ...Be7. The downside is the weakened a2-g8 diagonal. Botvinnik and, more recently, Nakamura made it a combative weapon against 1.d4.
