About this opening

The Siroccopteryx variation extends the Colle System's “Pterodactyl” family: after ...cxd4 and Nxd4, Black launches the ...Qa5+ check to annoy White and regain the initiative on the long diagonal. The play is asymmetrical and concrete, based on the activity of Black's fianchettoed pieces. With its whimsical name, it is a marginal, combative line, far from the beaten paths of the classical Colle.
