About this opening
The Polish Gambit springs from Anderssen's Opening (1.a3): after 1...a5 2.b4, White offers a wing pawn to gain queenside space, in the spirit of the Polish Opening with a preparatory move. The idea is original but not very pressing; Black accepts or declines without difficulty. It is above all a surprise choice, a nod to the romantic champion Adolf Anderssen.
