About this opening
The Moscow Variation (3.Bb5+, after 2...d6) is a no-nonsense anti-Sicilian: with this check, White trades or repositions the bishop, simplifies the game and avoids the immense theory of the Open Sicilian. Depending on Black's reply (...Bd7, ...Nc6 or ...Nd7), a sound middlegame follows in which White keeps a small lasting initiative. A practical weapon, very much in vogue at the top level.
