About this opening

The Giuoco Piano (3.Bc4 Bc5), literally “quiet game”, is one of the oldest known openings. Both sides develop their pieces harmoniously and contest the center with c3 and d4, or more slowly with d3 in the Giuoco Pianissimo that is very fashionable today. This patient handling of the central pawns makes it an ideal training ground for positional principles.
