The Chigorin Defense (5.Bxb2 Qe7) develops the queen to e7 to defend actively and prepare ...d6 and piece development. Black keeps the material while watching White's attacking lines on the long diagonal. The idea is to hold the position coolly before possibly returning a pawn. It is a solid, pragmatic defense to the Danish Gambit.
