About this opening
With 1.Nh3 White develops the knight to the rim of the board: the Amar Opening is a deliberately eccentric choice. The plan is to follow with g3 and Bg2, but Black equalizes easily by taking the center with d5 and e5. The best-known line, the Paris Gambit (2.g3 e5 3.f4), sacrifices material to muddy the waters. Named after the Parisian player Charles Amar, it was nicknamed Ammonia by Tartakower, a nod to the chemical formula NH3.
