About this opening
The Brooklyn Variation (2.e5 Ng8) returns the knight to its home square: Black deliberately loses two tempi to coax White into overextending the center, which is then undermined with ...d6 and ...c5. The idea is provocative and risky, on the edge of the irregular. Reserved for fans of offbeat positions, it demands very precise defense so as not to simply remain behind in development.
