About this opening
The Semi-Slav Defense combines ...d5, ...c6 and ...e6: Black builds a very solid pawn center while keeping dynamic resources. The system is famous for its sharp lines: the Meran Variation, the anti-Meran gambit and the Botvinnik system are among the most theoretical in chess. A pillar of the Kramnik–Anand duels, the Semi-Slav demands precise preparation but offers very rich play.
