About this opening
The King's Gambit (1.e4 e5 2.f4) is the archetype of romantic openings: White sacrifices a pawn to open the f-file, speed up development and attack the black king. The King's Gambit Accepted (2...exf4) and the King's Gambit Declined are its two main branches. Long feared, it was championed by Spielmann and later by Spassky, who used it to beat Fischer at Mar del Plata in 1960.
