About this opening

The Berger Variation (4.Qe3 Nf6) sees Black naturally develop the king's knight against the Paulsen Attack, preparing ...Be7, ...d6 or ...Bb4 and castling. Black aims to neutralize White's initiative through quick, harmonious development, eventually exploiting the slightly exposed queen on e3. It is the classical, sound reply to the modern Center Game.
