About this opening
The original Blackmar Gambit (1.d4 d5 2.e4 dxe4 3.f3) is the ancestor of the Blackmar-Diemer: White sacrifices a pawn to open the f-file and speed up development. The immediate f3 push, however, allows Black the strong reply ...e5, which is why Diemer later preferred the move order 3.Nc3. It is a romantic, historical line, all about attack.
