About this opening
The McDonnell Gambit (2.Bc4 Bc5 3.b4) transplants the Evans Gambit idea into the Bishop's Opening: White offers the b4 pawn to gain a tempo on the c5 bishop and build a center with c3 and d4. The idea is enterprising and opens the game, but the compensation stays dubious against precise defense. It is a romantic line, to be used for the fun of a quick attack.
