The Pseudo-Sämisch variation (4.f3) declines the pawn and prepares a robust e4 center, in the spirit of Sämisch structures. White aims to smother Black's counterplay with a broad pawn front rather than defend materially. The f3 move delays development, though, and Black tries to hit the center before it strengthens. A solid but slow approach.
